An operation is underway to recover the wreck of a Roman ship from the 4th century CE, off the coast of Misiliscemi, in the area of Trapani, in western Sicily. 500,000 euros have been allocated for the action and the expected time of extraction of the artifact is 270 days.
The discovery of the object took place in July 2020, when one of the divers reported the presence of fragments of amphorae and wood debris off the coast of Sicily. The ancient remains were found 100 meters from the shoreline and at a depth of about 2 meters.
The preliminary findings of the researchers suggest that the vessel could have been a cargo ship. One of the museums is to be the final destination of the remains.
