Fayum mummy portrait of young woman, discovered in Egypt, shown with a crescent -shaped pendant – such artifact was given to girls to protect them from evil spirits.

Fayum mummy portraits were realistic portraits made on wood, which were made with Egyptian mummies from the time of the Romans. It was so -called board painting, which was extremely popular in ancient times. About 900 such images have survived to our times.
