Marines in Rome?

Rome Sweet Rome

Warner Bros bought the rights to create the film based on a comment by the user of the service Reddit – James Erwin – about American soldiers transferred to the times of ancient Rome. The film is supposed to tell a fictional story of the United States Expedition Unit, which was somehow transferred to the time of ancient Rome. The exact plot, however, is not known, because Warner Bros reserved production rights and announced the desire to create a film work. For this purpose, the cast is reportedly being completed.

From what we know, the plot will tell the story of a US marine division of 2, 200 people, which along with full equipment (tanks M1 Abrams, bulletproof vests, light machine guns M249 SAW, M16A4 or grenades) will be transferred to the times of Augustus, around year 23 BCE near the Tiber River. However, the Americans will not be able to replenish their equipment.

A discussion has already been held with Adrian Goldsworthy, a well-known British expert on Roman military. Historian analyzing a possible fictitious confrontation of Roman legions (almost 330, 000 soldiers) with a single, well-equipped American unit claims that the strength of marines would be enormous. Certainly legions would not have any chance of direct confrontation. However, with the ammunition running out, Americans would be left to look for a win in the destabilization of Rome’s political life. The only chance would be to take power in a millionth city with the help of Republican opponents.
