The world of ancient Romans abounded in a number of amazing curiosities and information. The Romans left behind a lot of strange information and facts that are sometimes hard to believe.

The Silchester eagle is a Roman bronze casting dating from the first or second century CE, uncovered in 1866 at Calleva Atrebatum in Silchester, Hampshire, England.

Mouth of truth – Roman medallion

The “Mouth of Truth” is a Roman marble medallion showing the image of a Roman bearded deity with an open mouth. The object has a diameter of about 1.75 meters and weighs 1.3 t.

How did Romans greet and say goodbye?

If you want to say hello in ancient Rome, it would be enough to say Salvē (in case of one recipient) or Salvēte, if we would welcome a larger group of people. Naturally, you could also use the word Avē. Avē and Salvē can simply be translated as “Hi”.

Roman doll made of ivory

Found in 1964, a Roman doll made of ivory with a gold necklace. The doll was discovered next to the body of mummified girl’s body. It is dated to II century CE. She was buried in Cossinii tomb in Tivoli.
