An amazing realistic portrait of a Roman man. Dated to 200-250 CE.
The miniature image was created on a glass dish – the so-called gold glass. The technique of gilding between layers of glass can be classified as gilding techniques. Works of art and crafts made with its help have been preserved in excellent condition, despite the fact that the gold flakes are very thin and the painting layer is delicate. Fragile glass was a good protection for miniature paintings.
