Ancient "fast-food" was discovered in Pompeii

Archaeologists have recently made interesting discoveries in Pompeii; among them is a counter where quick meals were served, which today we would call “fast-food”.

p=30319″>thermopolium and so far one there were found around dozens of such places in the city. The Roman fast-food bars were mainly visited by the poorer layers of the society, who did not have a kitchen or the opportunity to cook themselves in insulae.

In such a place you could eat coarse bread with salty fish, baked cheese, lentils or drink a well-seasoned wine.

The discovery took place in the so-called Regio V in Pompeii – which is not open to tourists, and where intensive excavations are been taken since the 1960s.
