Beautiful Roman mosaic discovered beneath an English farm

A beautiful Roman mosaic has been discovered in the county of Rutland (central England) that shows the clash between Achilles and Hector. Object discovered on the grounds of an English farm.

It is the first mosaic discovered in Britain to show a scene from the “Iliad”. The property adorned the dining room of a luxurious Roman villa. According to the researchers, the mosaic was damaged by fire and subsequent construction works, but it has retained its colours until our times.

The fire, however, did not damage the fragment of the mosaic, where we see lying dead and naked Hector, whom Achilles – according to the “Iliad” – will then tie to his chariot and drag along the walls of Troy.
