Archaeological work on the site of a former temple at Poggio Colla in Tuscany has brought a discovery. A 1.2-meter stele with an Etruscan inscription was excavated from under the ground.
The stone is very dirty and broken, therefore, before we know the content of the inscription, archaeologists will have to clean the stone. According to scientists, it is very likely that it is a sacred text that can be a source of important information on the socio-cultural life of the Etruscans.
The find dates back to the 6th century BCE and may contain previously unknown words, including even the name of a god or goddess. The stone was used about 2,500 years ago as a building material for a temple to replace an earlier structure.
