Marble bust of Hadrian was found in Spain

At the archaeological site of Los Torrejones in Murcia, Spain, a very well-preserved marble bust of Emperor Hadrian was discovered. The discovery was made in October-December 2014.

The sculpture is 52 cm high and made entirely of marble. The discovery dates back to 135 CE and is one of many other portraits of Hadrian (nearly 160 portraits) that have survived to our times. The object was found along with another smaller figurine depicting a woman, also dated to the beginning of the 2nd century CE. The place itself, Los Torrejones, was known for its Roman villas, where both aristocrats and ordinary farmers lived.
