Remains of Roman city in Spain have been discovered

In Spain, in the current centre of Jimena de la Frontera, the remains of a Roman city were discovered in 2016. The existence of the centre was confirmed by the discovered coins.

You can read on them the name “OBA”, which refers to the name of the city before Roman rule. With the conquest of the region, the city was renamed Res Publica Obensis.

Archaeologists discovered doors, towers, hydraulic infrastructure adapted to the mountainous terrain, a temple, and well-preserved walls. The choice of the place where the centre was built was not accidental – the hill guaranteed a good view of the surroundings and a good position for defence.
