Remains of Roman ship discovered in Serbia

Remains of a Roman ship discovered in Serbia. The discovery took place during mining works carried out in the Drmno open-pit mine (north-eastern Serbia), which is located near the Danube.

According to the researchers, the object probably belonged to a group of river units that supplied supplies to the Roman city of Viminacium. This city had a population in the 3rd-4th century CE about 45 thousand inhabitants and had impressive buildings (palace, temples, hippodrome, walls, aqueducts and baths).

Currently, work is underway to secure the preserved wooden elements of the ship’s hull.
