Roman road in Leicester

Construction work on the site of the former Leicester bus station in England allowed archaeologists to conduct more detailed research. This had unexpected results.

From the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries, the area was heavily built up with houses and shops. A team of archaeologists from the University of Leicester discovered the remains of two Roman stone streets and wooden structures of houses under the medieval streets. In addition, remains of the floor and walls, coins, dishes, game pieces, hairpins and jewellery were found. The items are dated to the 2nd-4th century CE.
