Roman sarcophagus discovered in London

In 2017, in Swan Street, London (England), a Roman sarcophagus was found. The discovery took place during construction works for 64 new houses.

Interestingly, after the initial assessment, the scientists concluded that the grave had been opened and robbed in the past. It seems, however, that only the prices of the items fell prey to the thieves, and the body is still present in the stone sarcophagus.

The Southwark district is known for this type of find, which proves that there was once a vast Roman cemetery area here.
