Smells in museum about Romans were too strong

In 2003, the “Dewa Roman Experience” museum in Chester, England, was forced to reduce the stench emanating from a nearly 2,000-year-old Roman latrine.

The authorities were forced to do so when four students visiting the site vomited because of the smell.

The disgusting smell was the product of a company tasked with making the museum even more realistic and bringing Roman Britain back to life. Harmless chemicals were used to create the fragrances.

After more students reacted badly to the “smells”, the museum authorities decided to reduce their intensity. To this day, visitors to the museum can enter the world of the Romans even deeper thanks to the senses: sight, hearing and smell.
