Theater mask from early Roman period has been found

In south-eastern Turkey, in the city of Aydin, archaeologists unearthed valuable artefacts from a closed chamber in 2016. The finds date back over 2000 years, that is, from the period of the early Roman conquests.

Three rectangular sarcophagi were discovered in the chamber. Next to the bodies, there were numerous items that were gifts for the dead. Scientists managed to extract 37 artefacts from this port, including a theatre mask made of baked clay. Specialists suspect that one of the deceased had interests or was involved in the theatre.

All finds are to be displayed to the public at the Aydın Archaeological Museum.
