Thieves are returning stolen artefacts from Pompeii

In 2015, curators from Pompeii received “hundreds of packages” with notes of apologies from tourists who return stolen artifacts.

In October, information circulated around the world about a Canadian woman who returned to Pompeii curators an old fragment of the object, more than 2,000 years old, stolen 50 years earlier. A woman who is now 70 years old took the roof of the decoration from the 1st century CE, made of terracotta. As her offence claims, she had a bad conscience for decades.

Massimo Osanna, the overseer of Pompeii, reveals that there were hundreds of such cases.
