In 2016, a waiter accidentally damaged a famous Roman statue at the British Museum. Luckily, the statue only lost a thumb.
A famous monument is a Roman sculpture dating from the 1st-2nd century CE. The artwork is from Charles Towneley’s collection and shows the Roman goddess Venus. The statue was sold to the British Museum in 1805.
As the Museum authorities claim, the whole event is an “unfortunate accident”, which, however, is taken very seriously. The specialists eventually reattached the removed finger. Now talks are underway about taking responsibility for those involved in this accident.
