Well-preserved Roman sarcophagus was found in Ostia

In Ostia, a well-preserved Roman sarcophagus was found, which dates back to the second century CE. Inside the object were the remains of a city resident from over 1800 years ago.

The discovery happened by accident during work carried out in private areas adjacent to the archaeological site, near the Castle of Julius II.

The remains belonged to an approximately 40-year-old man who did not have 19 teeth at the time of death. Scientists believe that the deceased was simple, humble social character.
