Dobkowice is a small village in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship. Why am I writing about this place on the site about ancient Rome<\/a>? Thanks to the beautiful passion of Mr Jerzy Jankowski<\/b>. It is thanks to its beautiful Roman sculptures and elements that this quiet provincial place has become known all over Poland. <\/p>\n

As Mr Jerzy himself says:<\/p>\n

“For over 10 years I have been building lapidaria (stone walls) in the school garden of the John Paul II Primary School in Dobkowice in Subcarpathia, in which I place bas-reliefs and sculptures thematically related to ancient Rome”.<\/p>\n

These are: mock-ups (enlarged) of Roman coins, a fragment of Trajan’s Columns<\/a>, masks and decorative friezes.<\/p>\n

“I am a teacher by education<\/a>. I have been working at school for 34 years, including 17 years as the headmaster of the school. I work in art, mainly sculpture. I work creatively with children” – he adds.<\/p>\n

What certainly attracts attention in the works of Mr Jerzy is the focus on details and the enormity of the artist’s work. The sculptures are beautiful and even resemble Roman objects. Enthusiasts of the history of Rome<\/a> will surely go to the Subcarpathian region to visit the wonderful garden at the Primary School. John Paul II in Dobkowice.<\/p>\n
