{"id":103636,"date":"2022-03-20T21:55:13","date_gmt":"2022-03-20T20:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/?post_type=ciekawostki&#038;p=103636"},"modified":"2022-03-20T21:55:13","modified_gmt":"2022-03-20T20:55:13","slug":"marcus-agrippa-example-of-breech-birth","status":"publish","type":"ciekawostki","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/marcus-agrippa-example-of-breech-birth\/","title":{"rendered":"Marcus Agrippa &#8211; example of breech birth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Breech birth (a child is born with legs and buttocks facing the birth canal) has been considered dangerous since ancient times. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/marek-wipsaniusz-agrypa\/\">Pliny the Elder<\/a> defines those born in this way as <em>agrippae<\/em>, meaning &#8220;born with difficulty&#8221;. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Due to the many risks associated with such delivery, it is now recommended to use a &#8220;caesarean section&#8221;. In ancient <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Rome<\/a>, such an operation was decided only in the event of the mother&#8217;s death, or probably as a last resort, when the woman&#8217;s life could no longer be saved. Due to the lack of proper sanitary conditions, the woman was dying at that time.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Pliny reports that the famous Roman commander and friend of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/oktawian-august\/\">Octavian Augustus<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/marcus-vipsanius-agrippa\/\">Marcus Agrippa<\/a> &#8211; was born in the buttock manner &#8211; who was one of the few who managed to spend his life favourably.
