{"id":112450,"date":"2022-10-05T19:31:51","date_gmt":"2022-10-05T17:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/?post_type=ciekawostki&#038;p=112450"},"modified":"2022-10-05T19:33:12","modified_gmt":"2022-10-05T17:33:12","slug":"short-javelins-plumbatae","status":"publish","type":"ciekawostki","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/short-javelins-plumbatae\/","title":{"rendered":"Short javelins &#8211; plumbatae"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/units-of-roman-army\/roman-legion\/\">Roman legion<\/a>, apart from the usual javelins (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/equipment-of-roman-legionary\/pilum\/\">pilum<\/a><\/em>), a type of short javelin (<em><b>plumbatae<\/b><\/em>) was also used. <em>Plumbata<\/em> was a kind of a dart approximately 60 cm with a lead load (ball), thanks to which the dart was stable during the flight. Its operation was similar to that of <em>pilum<\/em> with the difference, however, that it could be thrown much further. Thongs or something like wooden hand-held launchers was used for this. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There was a special group of soldiers in the legion that used a kind of short javelins, the so-called <em>plumbatarii<\/em>.
