According to <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-art-and-culture\/roman-legends\/\">legend<\/a>, during the siege of the Etruscan capital Veii in 396 BCE, Roman soldiers digging the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/wojsko\/machiny-obleznicze-antycznych-rzymian\/tunele-rzymskie\/\">tunnel<\/a> heard a bard over them proclaiming that the victory would be given to the side that offered the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/\">gods<\/a> first to <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/suovetaurilia-sacrifice\/\">sacrifice<\/a> the sacred parts of the sacrificial animal. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At that moment, the whole ceremony was performed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-kingdom\/roman-kings\/\">king<\/a> of the besieged city, who was going to offer tribute to the gods. Suddenly, however, the Roman legionaries finally &#8220;punched out&#8221; the lecture hall, cut down the gathered people and took over the victim.
