Agrippa Postumus (12 BCE – 14 CE) was born as Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa Postumus and was the son of Marcus Agrippa – the famous general of Augustus – and Julia, the daughter of the emperor.<\/p>\n
He owed his nickname Postumus, which means “posthumus<\/span><\/span><\/span>“, he owed the fact that he was born after his father’s death (12 BCE).<\/p>\n After the death of older brothers Lucius and Gaius Caesar, he was also adopted by emperor Augustus and was taken – together with Tiberius – into account when casting the throne after the death of the ruler.<\/p>\n According to Suetonius, he was not supposed to give the best impression and was considered rather insane. Over time, his competition for power with Tiberius led to his imprisonment in 6 or 7 CE on the island of Planazja, to be killed after August’s death.<\/p>\n An interesting fact is that after his death a usurper appeared, a slave named Clemens, who claimed to be the wonderfully surviving Agrippa Postumus in 16 CE.
