The object has a diameter of about 1.75 meters and weighs 1.3 t.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The object is believed to have been able to function as an entrance to the sewer of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Rome<\/a> (near the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/temple-of-hercules-victor-in-rome\/\">Temple of Hercules<\/a>) on the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/kultura\/architektura-rzymska\/budowle-rzymskie\/forum-boarium\/\">Forum Boarium<\/a>, be part of a fountain or sarcophagus.<\/p>\n<p>It is still not identified what the deity is shown on the medallion. Scientists suspect <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/list-of-roman-gods\/mercury-roman-god\/\">Mercury<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/list-of-roman-gods\/fauna\/\">Fauna<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/list-of-roman-gods\/jupiter\/\">Jupiter<\/a> or the Greek Triton and Oceanos.<\/p>\n<p>In medieval times there was a <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-art-and-culture\/roman-legends\/\">legend<\/a> saying that a lying person who puts his hand in the deity&#8217;s mouth would lose it. This myth has become so popular that the medallion has become a real tourist curiosity with which tourists often take a picture.
