{"id":43027,"date":"2018-09-29T19:09:52","date_gmt":"2018-09-29T17:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ciekawostka\/wild-animals-and-tunnels\/"},"modified":"2018-09-29T19:17:32","modified_gmt":"2018-09-29T17:17:32","slug":"wild-animals-and-tunnels","status":"publish","type":"ciekawostki","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/wild-animals-and-tunnels\/","title":{"rendered":"Wild animals and tunnels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the II <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/wojny\/wojny-rzymu-z-mitrydatesem-vi\/\">war with the Mithridates<\/a> (73-63 BCE), the Romans, headed by <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/lucjusz-licyniusz-lukullus\/\">Lucullus<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/neighboring-lands-around-ancient-rome\/pontus\/\">Pontus<\/a> near the Black Sea coast and besieged the Pontic city of Themyscira<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Recognized as the homeland of the Amazons.\" data-footid=\"1\">1<\/sup>. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/appian-of-alexandria\/\">Appian<\/a> from Alexandria there was an unexpected defense strategy from the inhabitants. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Romans, wanting to quickly overcome the fortress walls, decided to dig a vast network of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/siege-machines-of-ancient-romans\/roman-tunnels\/\">tunnels<\/a> under the city, avoiding massive walls. Defenders seeing how successively the Romans were moving forward with the digging, decided to make their own trenches, which allowed wild <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/article\/animals-and-hunting-in-world-of-romans\/\">animals<\/a> to enter the tunnels, including bears and bees.
