Probably in the later Roman period, <em>gladiatrices<\/em> (singular <em>gladiatrix<\/em>) were also people from <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/social-layers-of-ancient-rome\/slavery-in-ancient-rome\/\">slavery<\/a>. Originally, however, women voluntarily took part in gladiatorial <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/battles-of-ancient-rome\/\">battles<\/a>, seeking adventures.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>They were usually Roman women from <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/article\/richest-men-and-wages-in-ancient-rome\/\">rich<\/a> homes that liked to fight and treated rivalry in the arena as entertainment, sport or just a way to play an important role in society. Women did not look for money because they were rich. The most important thing was to convince the person organizing the fight to accept a willing <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/roman-woman\/\">Roman woman<\/a> to the school of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/entertainment-in-ancient-rome\/gladiator-fights\/\">gladiators<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the account from <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/publius-cornelius-tacitus\/\">Tacitus<\/a> (56-117 CE), fights between <em>gladiatrices<\/em> were reluctantly viewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/spoleczenstwo\/warstwy-spoleczne-starozytnego-rzymu\/nobilowie\/\">noblemen<\/a>, however, willingly by the general public.
