These types of associations were created either on the initiative of the Senate or independently. What&#8217;s more, there were also religious associations.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Under Roman law, only three Roman citizens were able to open <em>collegium<\/em>. In the third century CE emperor Aurelian introduced institutions controlling the colleges due to the fact that the associations also connected persons involved in crimes.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth mentioning that in Rome, <i>collegium legitima<\/i> (legal) or <i>collegium illicita<\/i> (illegal) was distinguished.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>One can distinguish among others associations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Collegium Armaroiorum<\/b> &#8211; gladiators college<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Bacchus<\/b> &#8211; Bacchus College<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Bisellariorum<\/b> &#8211; college of chair manufacturers<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Castrensialiorum<\/b> &#8211; college of merchants traveling with the army<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Centonariorum<\/b> &#8211; college of textile traders<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Communionis Minirum<\/b> &#8211; college of actors<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Dianae et Antinoi<\/b> &#8211; college of Diana and Antinous<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Farnariorum<\/b> &#8211; college of people who care about gardens<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Lupanariorum<\/b> &#8211; college<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Pistorum<\/b> &#8211; a college of bakers from lupanar owners. One of the associations valued among the higher classes and the Senate.<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Pontificum<\/b> &#8211; college of pontificates (Roman priests)<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Saliarium Baxiarum<\/b> &#8211; college of shoemakers<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Urinatorum<\/b> &#8211; college of people engaged in catching sunken objects<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Vasculariorum<\/b> &#8211; college of metal vessel manufacturers<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Vinariorum<\/b> &#8211; college of wine sellers<\/li>\n<li><b>Collegium Vinatorum<\/b> &#8211; plantation college<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, the lower layers were gathered in the association:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>merchants-wholesalers (<em>magnarii<\/em>), dealing in the trade of grain, olive oil and wine<\/li>\n<li>shipowners (<em>domini navium<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>Vegetable sellers (<em>olitores<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>fish retailer (<em>piscatores<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>pate seller (<em>siliginarii<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>an association of tailors, sewing togas (<em>vestiarii<\/em>), coats (<em>sagarii<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>dyers association (<em>sinctores<\/em>), embroiderers (<em>plumarii<\/em>), workers (<em>fontani<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>goldsmiths relationship (<em>aufifices<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>seller of pearls (<em>margaritarian<\/em>), rings (<em>anularii<\/em>), ivory (<em>eburarii<\/em>), perfumes (<em>pigmentarii<\/em>)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>college of porters (<em> geruli<\/em>), mule wagons (<em>muliones<\/em>), chariots (<em>vectuarii<\/em>)<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Staro\u017cytno\u015b\u0107 nieznana\" data-footid=\"1\">1<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most historians did not devote much attention to Roman colleges in their works due to the fact that they linked to a large extent the lower social strata, which in this way wanted to defend their interests.
