According to it, the person who defeated in the direct duel the general of the hostile <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/\">army<\/a> was granted the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/list-of-roman-gods\/honor\/\">honor<\/a> of putting the armor drawn from his body and the rest of the gear in the temple of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/list-of-roman-gods\/jupiter\/\">Jupiter<\/a> Feret&#8217;rius on the Capitol. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tradition derived the custom <em>spolia opima<\/em> from the early beginnings of Rome, when <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-art-and-culture\/roman-legends\/legend-of-romulus-and-remus\/\">Romulus<\/a> was supposed to defeat the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-kingdom\/roman-kings\/\">king<\/a> of Sabine &#8211; Acron in a duel and take his armor. In fact, this custom probably had a much older origin and originated from some archaic rituals.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Romulus, <em>spolia opima<\/em> was done only by two generals in Rome&#8217;s history: in 428 BCE Aulus Cornelius Cossus defeated the king of Veii Lars Tolumnius and in 222 BCE Marcellus defeated the leader of the Gauls &#8211; Viridomarus. In 29 BCE <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-republic\/roman-offices\/proconsul\/\">proconsul<\/a> of Macedonia <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/marcus-licinius-crassus\/\">Marcus Licinius Crassus<\/a> was to perform <em>spolia opima<\/em> for defeating the Bastarn leader, but <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-triumph\/\">triumph<\/a> was blocked by <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/augustus\/\">Augustus<\/a> on the accusation that Crassus was not an independent commander of the army, so he is not entitled to such honor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":36150,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"kategorie_ciekawostek":[77],"class_list":["post-50004","ciekawostki","type-ciekawostki","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","kategorie_ciekawostek-unknown-facts"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ciekawostki\/50004","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ciekawostki"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/ciekawostki"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ciekawostki\/50004\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/36150"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=50004"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"kategorie_ciekawostek","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/kategorie_ciekawostek?post=50004"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
