The blood was collected and sold to the crowd. When the body of the death gladiator was taken out of the arena, the &#8220;sellers&#8221; collected still warm blood and sold it to the crowd. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Blood was collected from the still warm body of the gladiator, cutting the throat. It is mentioned i.e. by Celsus<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Celsus, On Medicine, 3.23\" data-footid=\"1\">1<\/sup>. Interestingly, when in the year 400 CE <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/entertainment-in-ancient-rome\/gladiator-fights\/\">gladiators<\/a> were forbidden to fight, similarly the blood of the condemned<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Tertullian, Apologia, 9.11\" data-footid=\"2\">2<\/sup> was perseived as healing.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander of Tralles (about 525 &#8211; about 605 CE), in turn, mentioned that a great recipe for curing himself from epilepsy is to wet a piece of material into the blood of a warrior or criminal; burn the soaked <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/clothing-in-ancient-rome\/\">clothing<\/a>, then mix the ashes with wine and drink<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Alexander of Tralles, Terapeuci, 1.565\" data-footid=\"3\">3<\/sup>. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/apparently-donuts-were-already-loved-by-ancient-romans\/\">Apparently<\/a> it gave a stunning result.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, it&#8217;s worth mentioning that others were looking for a drug in other places. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/pliniusz-starszy\/\">Pliny the Elder<\/a> mentions, among others, that bone marrow or baby brain<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Pliny the Elder, Natural History, 28.4\" data-footid=\"4\">4<\/sup> was also eaten.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":36156,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"kategorie_ciekawostek":[83],"class_list":["post-50356","ciekawostki","type-ciekawostki","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","kategorie_ciekawostek-ancient-stories"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ciekawostki\/50356","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ciekawostki"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/ciekawostki"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/ciekawostki\/50356\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/36156"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=50356"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"kategorie_ciekawostek","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/kategorie_ciekawostek?post=50356"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
