{"id":50485,"date":"2019-05-24T23:23:03","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T21:23:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ciekawostka\/five-good-emperors\/"},"modified":"2020-01-24T16:03:13","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T15:03:13","slug":"five-good-emperors","status":"publish","type":"ciekawostki","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/five-good-emperors\/","title":{"rendered":"Five good emperors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The so-called &#8220;five good emperors&#8221; &#8211; it was the time of the reign of the five <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-empire\/roman-emperors\/\">Roman emperors<\/a> who ruled in the years 96-180 CE and they were distinguished by stable and sound reign.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This group included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/nerwa\/\">Nerva<\/a> (ruling in the years 96-98 CE)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/trajan\/\">Trajan<\/a> (98-117.e).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/hadrian\/\">Hadrian<\/a> (117-138 CE)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/antoninus-pius\/\">Antoninus Pius<\/a> (138-161 CE)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/marcus-aurelius\/\">Marcus Aurelius<\/a> (161-180 CE, co-ruling with <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/lucius-verus\/\">Lucius Verus<\/a> in the years 161 -169 CE)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Succession in the age of &#8220;five good emperors&#8221; followed peacefully &#8211; each emperor adopted a successor. The period of their reign in the first and second century CE was considered the <b><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/golden-age-of-roman-empire\/\">golden age<\/a> of a Roman state<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Only the first ruler was elevated to the throne as a result of the murder of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/domitian\/\">Domitian<\/a>. His successors were adopted and successively took power as successors in the aura of peace and stability.<\/p>\n<p>The time of reign of the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ustroj\/cesarstwo-rzymskie\/dynastie-rzymskie\/dynastia-antoninow\/\">Nerva\u2013Antonine dynasty<\/a> (96-192 CE) &#8211; except for the rule of its last member <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/commodus\/\">Commodus<\/a> &#8211; it is the period of Roman power. The <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-empire\/roman-emperors\/\">emperors<\/a> ruled the territory from North Britain to Dacia; from <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/neighboring-lands-around-ancient-rome\/arabia-in-roman-times\/\">Arabia<\/a> to Mesopotamia. The empire was consolidated, the defense was well prepared, and the administration system was reasonably implemented. During the rule of the discussed &#8220;five&#8221; there was also a clear centralization of power and an unofficial departure from the &#8220;duality&#8221; in the government, which was used in the first century CE thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/augustus\/\">Augustus<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-republic\/roman-offices\/roman-senate\/\">Senate<\/a> was deprived of any tools and <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-republic\/roman-offices\/\">offices<\/a> that would allow it to influence the political scene.<\/p>\n<p>After the death of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/marcus-aurelius\/\">Marcus Aurelius<\/a> in 180 CE, the Empire quickly began to plunge, resulting in a civil war. The murder of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/commodus\/\">Commodus<\/a> in 193 CE started a competition for power, which was won by <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/septimius-severus\/\">Septimius Severus<\/a>.
