{"id":51432,"date":"2019-06-26T23:34:32","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T21:34:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ciekawostka\/trial-of-publius-sulla\/"},"modified":"2022-09-29T12:09:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T10:09:47","slug":"trial-of-publius-sulla","status":"publish","type":"ciekawostki","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/trial-of-publius-sulla\/","title":{"rendered":"Trial of Publius Sulla"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 62 BCE Publius <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/lucius-cornelius-sulla\/\">Sulla<\/a> was accused together with his brother Servius by Lucius Torquatus &#8211; son of his rival for the office of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-republic\/roman-offices\/roman-consul\/\">consul<\/a> in 65 BCE &#8211; for participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/article\/catilinarian-conspiracy\/\">Catilinarian conspiracy<\/a>. The defence of the accused was taken by two of the best lawyers in <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Rome<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/cicero\/\">Cicero<\/a> and Hortensius.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Eventually, Publius was acquitted &#8211; unlike Servius. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/cicero\/\">Cicero<\/a> did not take up his defence because &#8211; as he claimed &#8211; he doubted his innocence and did not have doubts about Publius.
