{"id":55014,"date":"2019-09-29T17:23:07","date_gmt":"2019-09-29T15:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ciekawostka\/famous-etruscan-terracotta-sarcophagus\/"},"modified":"2019-09-30T08:13:15","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T06:13:15","slug":"famous-etruscan-terracotta-sarcophagus","status":"publish","type":"ciekawostki","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/famous-etruscan-terracotta-sarcophagus\/","title":{"rendered":"Famous Etruscan terracotta sarcophagus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The famous Etruscan terracotta sarcophagus (so-called &#8220;Sarcophagus of Spouse&#8221;) is an example of the outstanding craft skills of the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/neighboring-lands-around-ancient-rome\/italian-peoples\/etruscans\/\">Etruscans<\/a>. The artifact was found in 1881 in the Banditaccia necropolis in Cerveteri (antique Caere).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The object was purchased by Felice Bernabei &#8211; founder of the National Etruscan Museum &#8211; and consisted of over 400 pieces, which were then combined. The ashes of deceased spouses were laid in the sarcophagus.<\/p>\n<p>The sarcophagus has the shape of a &#8220;banquet bed&#8221; (<em>kline<\/em>), on which there is a pair in a semi-reclining pose. The facility was built between 530 and 520 BCE and it certainly glowed with different colors.
