The <b><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-art-and-culture\/roman-architecture\/roman-buildings\/colosseum\/\">Colosseum<\/a><\/b> is the second largest building of antiquity after the Giza Pyramid. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It was built in about 10 years, which was an amazing achievement for its level of technological advancement. This building was a gift from the newly elected emperor Vespasian to the people of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Rome<\/a>. In this way, the ruler wanted to win his subjects and consolidate power after the death of the last member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ustroj\/cesarstwo-rzymskie\/dynastie-rzymskie\/dynastia-julijsko-klaudyjska\/\">Julian-Claudian dynasty<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/nero\/\">Nero<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of the Olympic games, the <b> Coliseum opening <\/b> killed 5,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/article\/animals-and-hunting-in-world-of-romans\/\">animals<\/a>. hordes of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/entertainment-in-ancient-rome\/gladiator-fights\/\">gladiators<\/a> fought with each other (around 900), and a naval battle took place.
