The most famous are the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/units-of-roman-army\/praetorians\/\">praetorians<\/a>, the emperor&#8217;s soldiers, who abused their power more than once. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At night, the order in the streets was guarded by <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/units-of-roman-army\/militia-vigilum\/\">Vigiles<\/a> armed with clubs, who also reacted in the event of fires. City cohorts are the third <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/military-formations-of-ancient-romans\/battle-and-marching-formations-of-ancient-romans\/\">formation<\/a> appreciated by citizens. For when simple people rebelled against the authority of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/commodus\/\">Emperor Commodus<\/a>, he sent cavalry troops to the protesters.
