The need to defend the borders against the invasions of Germanic tribes and the Persian <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-army\/\">army<\/a> forced the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-empire\/roman-emperors\/\">emperors<\/a> to excessively expand the army, whose maintenance costs increased and the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-economy\/\">Roman economy<\/a> was unable to bear them. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the supply system, the emperors imposed huge fiscal burdens on the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/population-of-roman-empire\/\">population<\/a> and supplemented the deficiencies in the treasury through the so-called &#8220;spoiling the coin&#8221;, i.e. putting into circulation a coin that contained a large admixture of base metals instead of precious metals.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;corruption of the coin&#8221; led to hyperinflation, which was controlled by the tools of the command economy. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-empire\/\">Roman Empire<\/a> between 200 and 280 CE reached <b>dramatically high <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/article\/inflation-in-world-of-ancient-romans\/\">inflation<\/a><\/b>.
