To clean the sponge, the user rinsed it in a bucket of water and salt (or vinegar)<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Nash, Stephen E, &#039;Co robili staro\u017cytni Rzymianie bez papieru toaletowego?&#039;\" data-footid=\"2\">2<\/sup>. Needless to say, this &#8220;hygienic&#8221; device became a breeding ground for bacteria, causing the disease to spread &#8211; especially in military camps<sup class=\"footnote\" data-qtip=\"Gigante Linda. \u201e\u015amier\u0107 i choroby w staro\u017cytnym Rzymie\u201d, innominatesociety.com\" data-footid=\"3\">3<\/sup>.
