A gold ring containing a stone engraved with the image of Cupid, the Roman god of love, was found in 2015 by a metal detector enthusiast near the English village of Tangley.<\/p>\n

Scientists studying the object date it to the 4th century CE, when Britain was part of the Roman Empire<\/a>. The onyx engraving shows a naked man with one hand resting on a pillar, with a torch in the other. A pair of small wings suggests that the character is Cupid.
