{"id":104377,"date":"2022-04-16T11:08:20","date_gmt":"2022-04-16T09:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/?post_type=odkrycia-rzymskie&#038;p=104377"},"modified":"2022-04-16T11:08:20","modified_gmt":"2022-04-16T09:08:20","slug":"roman-garum-wreck-discovered","status":"publish","type":"odkrycia-rzymskie","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/discoveries\/roman-garum-wreck-discovered\/","title":{"rendered":"Roman garum wreck discovered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2015, Italian archaeologists discovered a Roman shipwreck that was carrying thousands of jugs full of ancient Romans&#8217; ketchup at that time &#8211; <em>garum<\/em>. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ciekawostka\/garum-przysmak-rzymian\/\">Garum<\/a><\/em> was a salty fish sauce with a strong flavour, made from fermented fish. It was considered a delicacy of exquisite Roman cuisine and often replaced the expensive salt. The smelly fluid was mass-produced in factories in Spain and <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/roman-ruins-in-troia-portugal\/\">Portugal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The wreck was found approximately 198 meters underwater close to the shores of Liguria in northwest Italy. The ship was about 98 meters long and dates back to the 1st\/2nd century CE.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists believe that the vessel carried between 2,000 and 3,000 amphoras or earthenware jars. It was to depart from the port of Cadiz in Spain, the famous production site of <em>garum<\/em>, and it was to arrive on purpose in <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Rome<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The almost two-thousand-year-old wreck is one of five Roman ships found in the deep waters of the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":36295,"template":"","class_list":["post-104377","odkrycia-rzymskie","type-odkrycia-rzymskie","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/odkrycia-rzymskie\/104377","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/odkrycia-rzymskie"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/odkrycia-rzymskie"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/odkrycia-rzymskie\/104377\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/36295"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=104377"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
