The objects are made of marble and were probably the last resting place of the dead children of a wealthy Roman family.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The discovery came as the energy company began construction work to build new gas pipelines and lay cabling. The city authorities called a group of archaeologists to the site, whose task was to carefully extract the sarcophagi from the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The objects turned out to date back to the 3rd-4th century CE, and for further research, they were transported to the city centre for further analysis. The sarcophagi were located 3 meters below ground level, near the north wing of the famous <em>Stadio Olimpico<\/em> stadium, where Lazio and Roma play their matches.
