As it turned out, it contained toxic amounts of the element antimony.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It is not uncommon for specialists and researchers to suggest that one of the reasons for the fall of the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-empire\/\">Roman Empire<\/a> was the poisoning of society with ubiquitous lead. This heavy metal was used e.g. to sweeten wine, to fill small holes in <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-art-and-culture\/roman-architecture\/roman-buildings\/roman-aqueducts\/\">aqueducts<\/a> and to build sewage pipes.<\/p>\n<p>Antimony is a much more toxic element than lead and even a small amount of it in water can cause serious damage to the kidneys, liver and cause a heart attack.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists are currently looking for more examples of lead pipes to find out to what extent they contained harmful antimony.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":39963,"template":"","class_list":["post-116023","odkrycia-rzymskie","type-odkrycia-rzymskie","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/odkrycia-rzymskie\/116023","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/odkrycia-rzymskie"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/odkrycia-rzymskie"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/odkrycia-rzymskie\/116023\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/39963"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=116023"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
