In 2016, archaeologists found the remains of four teenagers from Roman times in an antique shop near Pompeii. In addition, gold coins and jewellery were found.<\/p>\n
The children must have sought refuge from the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE<\/a> Excavations near the Porta Ercolano<\/em> gate began in May this year. The road through the gate connected Pompeii<\/a> to Herculaneum. According to scientists, so far it has been possible to get to know the life of the then-inhabitants of Pompeii very well; however, there are still many unknowns. Researchers hope that the discovery will help explain them.<\/p>\n These excavations were intended to learn how trade outside the city walls developed. Unexpectedly, during the work, scientists discovered the remains of four people leaning against a wall in an ancient shop. Scientists believe that these people were looking for shelter. Eventually, however, they were caught up in volcanic ash and toxic gases in the store. A preliminary examination of the teeth and bones proved that they were young people. The gender of two of these people was confirmed: male and female.<\/p>\n Near the remains, coins dating from 74-78 CE, a gold leaf necklace and urns of powder were found.
