A prominent architect creating in the times of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/trajan\/\">Trajan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/hadrian\/\">Hadrian<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/curiosities\/apollodorus-of-damascus\/\">Apollodorus of Damascus<\/a>, criticized the design of the Hadrian&#8217;s dome, comparing it to the &#8220;pumpkin&#8221;. The full quote is: &#8220;Go away and draw your pumpkins. You know nothing about these [architectural] matters&#8221; (from Cassius Dio).<\/p>\n<p>Where did the name of the Serapeum come from? During his reigns (117-138 CE), Hadrian traveled a lot around the Empire. The famous <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-art-and-culture\/roman-architecture\/roman-buildings\/hadrians-villa\/\">Hadrian&#8217;s villa<\/a> had numerous constructions that received names depending on the places visited by the emperor. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/discoveries\/in-egypt-tombstones-and-wall-paintings-from-roman-times-discovered\/\">In Egypt<\/a>, the Serapeum was the temple of Serapis.
