{"id":98273,"date":"2021-11-08T18:46:46","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T17:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/?post_type=odkrycia-rzymskie&#038;p=98273"},"modified":"2021-11-08T18:46:46","modified_gmt":"2021-11-08T17:46:46","slug":"medieval-housing-community-in-colosseum","status":"publish","type":"odkrycia-rzymskie","link":"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/discoveries\/medieval-housing-community-in-colosseum\/","title":{"rendered":"Medieval housing community in Colosseum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2015, scholars discovered that from the 9th century, at least until 1349 (that is, until the earthquake partially damaged the building), the former ancient battle arena &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-art-and-culture\/roman-architecture\/roman-buildings\/colosseum\/\">Colosseum<\/a> &#8211; functioned as a rental space for the inhabitants of the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Eternal City<\/a>. The houses and workshops were located in the former arena, where <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/entertainment-in-ancient-rome\/gladiator-fights\/\">gladiators<\/a> fought to the death. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Archaeologists found ceramic vessels for cooking in the Colosseum and an ivory figurine of a monkey &#8211; the latter probably served as a chess piece.
