He was born in 321 CE. at Cibale in Pannonia. He became the Roman emperor on February 26, 364 CE.<br \/>\nJovian&#8217;s successor. He ruled the western and eastern parts of the empire and handed over the rule in the eastern part to his brother &#8211; <b><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/valens\/\">Valens<\/a><\/b>. After a few years, he appointed <b><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/gratian\/\">Gratian<\/a><\/b> as co-emperor. He was killed by the negotiators of the barbarian tribes in 375 CE.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"underlined\">Western Emperors:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/walentynian-i\/\"><b>Valentinian I<\/b><\/a> &#8211; ruled from 364 to 375 CE<\/li>\n<li>sons: <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/gracjan\/\"><b>Gratian<\/b><\/a> (375 &#8211; 383 CE) and <b>Valentinian II<\/b> (375 &#8211; 392 CE)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"underlined\">Eastern Emperors:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/walens\/\"><b>Valens<\/b><\/a> (364 &#8211; 378 CE) &#8211; brother of Valentinian I<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/teodozjusz-i-wielki\/\"><b>Theodosius I<\/b><\/a> (378 &#8211; 392 CE) &#8211; husband of Valentinian I&#8217;s daughter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The dynasty was linked to the Theodosian dynasty through the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/marriage-and-love-life-in-ancient-rome\/\">marriage<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/theodosius-i-the-great\/\">Theodosius I the Great<\/a>, ruler of the East, and the daughter of Valentinian I. Their marriage gave birth to <b>Elia <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/galla-placidia\/\">Galla Placidia<\/a><\/b>, whose son <b>Valentinian III<\/b> became Emperor of the East (reigned in the years 425 &#8211; 455 CE) and reigned as the last member of both families.
