Often Luna was depicted as the female complement to the god <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/religia\/bogowie-starozytnego-rzymu\/spis-bogow-rzymskich\/sol\/\">Sol<\/a> (&#8220;the Sun&#8221;). Luna is also depicted as one of the three goddesses (<em>diva triformis<\/em>) alongside Proserpine and Hecate.<br \/>\nOriginally she was a Sabine deity. Bringing her cult to <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Rome<\/a> (along with the cult of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/list-of-roman-gods\/sol-god-of-sun\/\">Sol<\/a>) was ascribed to Titus Tatius. Previously, she was identified with the Italian and Roman <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/list-of-roman-gods\/diana\/\">Diana<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Several temples were erected for her, the most important of which was on Aventine Hill. At her sanctuary on Palatine Hill (where she was worshipped as <em>Noctiluca<\/em> &#8211; &#8220;Shining by Night&#8221;), a light was lit in her honour every evening.<\/p>\n<p>In the art of ancient Rome, she was most often depicted on the model of the Greek Selene, that is, in a luminous garment, with a crescent moon, on a chariot drawn by two <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/article\/horses-in-ancient-rome\/\">horses<\/a> or oxen (<em>biga<\/em>). Apart from Luna, the god Sun rode the chariot.
