In 20 BCE it became a senatorial province, as did the more prominent western <a title=\"Roman Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/geografia\/prowincje-rzymskie\/spis-prowincji-rzymskich\/afryka-rzymska\/\"><em><b>Africa proconsularis<\/b><\/em><\/a>, and unlike <a title=\"Egypt Ancient\" href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/geografia\/krainy-sasiednie-rzymu\/egipt-starozytny\/\">Egypt<\/a>, which became the imperial domain of <em>sui generis<\/em> (under the special management of the governor, <em>praefectus augustalis<\/em>) in 30 BCE.<\/p>\n<p>Reforms carried out (including the uprising of the <a title=\"Dominat, tetrarchy\" href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/ustroj\/cesarstwo-rzymskie\/dominat\/\"><b>tetrarchy<\/b><\/a>) by <b><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/biographies\/diocletian\/\">Diocletian<\/a><\/b> in 296 CE changed the administrative structure of the province. Cyrenaica was divided into two separate provinces: <em><b>Libya Superior<\/b><\/em>, containing Pentapolis with its capital at Vyrene, and <em><b>Libya Inferior<\/b><\/em> with the capital in Marmarica.<br \/>\nBoth provinces belonged to the <b>Egyptian diocese<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Western neighbour &#8211; <b>Tripolitania<\/b>, the largest detached part of the former <em><a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/romes-contacts-with-africa-and-far-east\/\">Africa<\/a> proconsularis<\/em>, has become part of the <b>African diocese<\/b>.<br \/>\nAfter the earthquake in 365 CE, Cyrenaica&#8217;s capital was moved to <b>Ptolemais<\/b>.
