\n Vexillarius <\/div>\n \n \n <\/div>\n \n

Vexillarius<\/em> was one of the signiferi<\/em> in the Roman legion<\/a> and was specially protected during combat. He was defended with a small parma<\/em> shield.<\/p>\n

His task was to carry vexillum<\/em> (pl vexilla<\/em>), a military banner representing the name and emblem of the legion. The banner consisted of a fabric hanging on the crossbar of a lance or a stick. It was used both in infantry and in riding.
\nThe legionary<\/a> cavalry had banners on a horizontal pole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
