During this time, the families met for a feast. The household members offered <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-society\/eating-habits-of-romans\/\">food<\/a> and incense to the <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-religion\/gods-of-ancient-rome\/lares\/\">Lares<\/a>, the souls of the dead who guard the house.<\/p>\n<p>The day of this feast was a day of reconciliation and all disputes were to be put aside. <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/biografie\/owidiusz\/\">The poet Ovid<\/a> ironically noted that this could only be achieved by excluding those family members who caused the most trouble.
