Some Roman sources identified her with Ino-Leukotea, who, after her <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-constitution\/roman-law\/suicide-in-world-of-romans\/\">suicide<\/a> and turned into a sea goddess, was to leave <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/article\/greece-birth-of-city\/\">Greece<\/a> and come to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Myths also mention that upon her arrival in Italy, <em>Mater Matuta<\/em> was attacked by bacchantes who were agitated by her long-hostile <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/religia\/bogowie-starozytnego-rzymu\/spis-bogow-rzymskich\/junona\/\">Juno<\/a>. She was saved by <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/religia\/bogowie-starozytnego-rzymu\/spis-bogow-rzymskich\/herkules\/\">Heracles<\/a> and entrusted to Karmenta&#8217;s care. <em>Mater Matuta<\/em> was venerated with a holiday called <em>Matralia<\/em> on June 11th. Only free women who had only one surviving husband were allowed to participate (widows, slaves and divorced women were excluded from the celebration). Her temple was located at <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/kultura\/architektura-rzymska\/budowle-rzymskie\/forum-boarium\/\">Forum Boarium<\/a>, near the port of <a href=\"https:\/\/imperiumromanum.pl\/en\/roman-geography\/roman-cities\/rome-eternal-city\/\">Rome<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mater Matuta was the Roman goddess of morning and dawn in Roman mythology.
