1800-year-old Roman helmet
Preserved in good condition, 1800 years 1800-year-old helmet of the Roman legionary.
It is an Imperial-Italian-type helmet. The object is dated to 98-117 CE and it was discovered in Hebron (Israel).
This helmet had a deep bell with almost vertical walls at the bottom, a headpiece, and above it wavy protuberances, the so-called eyebrows, on the back there is a large neckband with a carrying handle, and above it the so-called folds. The face part was covered by cheek pads at the front with cutouts for the eyes and the mouth at the back for the ears. The number of eyebrows and folds, the angle of the nape and the profile of the cheeks differed in individual varieties. These helmets may have been decorated with bronze rosettes on the cheeks and covered with narrow strips of bronze on the edges.
